Kiana Khazchin is a Tehran-based visual artist, currently in residence at IN Residency in Muscat, Oman. Immersed in the city's unique urban life and natural surroundings, she observes the distinct characteristics of Muscat’s culture compared to her hometown. Upon arrival, herexpectations of the city changed dueto the lack of an alternative youth scene, and she found herself taking inspiration from the serene seascapes and muted architectural forms. She walks along the coastline, photographing dead animals and collecting shells, translating their abstract shapes into her drawings. The minimal colors and geometric structures of Muscat's architecture have also deeply influenced her ongoing projects.
