MOHSEN RAFEI | ALI SEYEDALIKHANI

Bio

Seyed Ali Seyed Alikhani, (b. 1973, Dezful, Iran) started painting as a teenager and then majored in sculpture at Tehran’s University of Art.
The sculptures of Alikhani are inspired by Khuzestan nomadic life and are made using black tents (siah-chador), goat hair, wool, and repurposed tools such as chains and shearing combs.
He learned traditional weaving directly from the nomads and incorporates it into his hand-made, non-reproducible work.
Rejecting classical sculpting practices, he stitches and weaves to study memory, ecology, and means of production.
His sculptures bring back to life withering cultural practices and individual, touch-driven processes. Seyed Alikhani is a member of the Iranian Visual Arts and Painters Associations.

Mohsen Rafei (b. 1982, Mashhad, Iran) holds a BA in Sculpture and an MA in Philosophy of Art from the University of Art in Tehran.
After a decade of studying and practicing classical drawing, during which he held several solo and group exhibitions, he shifted his focus to contemporary sculpture. His practice centers on interactive, audience-oriented sculptures that respond to spatial context and viewer presence. Rafei has held five solo exhibitions and participated in numerous group shows.
